How to Install Oracle 11g Software

During Installation; you are given the option or opportunity to to create a database. If u wish to the OUI (oracle universal installer) automatically starts oracle database configuration assistant (ODCA) to guide you through the process of creating a database.

Before installation process; you must

⦁    Check prerequisites
        Checking the hardwares and softwares to determine if your computer can accept the oracle software. Such prerequisites are minimum of 1 gig ram, appropriate file system, appropriate service packs.
⦁    Decide on installation choices.
        If you do not create database during installation then must run oracle database configuration assistant (ODCA) at some point.

Steps on how to install oracle software

step 1  Open the folder where you have the oracle software and click setup as shown in the picture below.

The software will check your system to make sure it meets the requirements. you might get something like this just click yes.

Step 2:  This requires email and password for security. Note that if you provide these details then your installation is going to be online. So make sure you have the network to do so if not uncheck the box and click next for a local-host installation.  A warning box appears to ask if u wish to remain uninformed about updates click yes.


Step 3: Installation Option
- Here you three options. (1) Create and configure database - The ODCA will automatically be started to guide through (recommended).
(2) Install database software only. This means that at some point after installation you will run ODCA to create and configure your database
(3) Upgrade an existing software. If you are upgrading the software version

Step 4: Installation methods.  (1) desktop class is most appropriate for desktops and laptops whuch requires minimum configuration. Only have to make basic options.
(2) Server Class. This is for servers such as you would see in a data center. its also use to support enterprise - level application. If you to access advance installation select this option.
But for the purpose of this class we would stick to desktop class and click next. so select lets move on.

Step 5: Typical Installation
(1) Oracle base Here you choose where your oracle base to be located
(2) Software location and database file location will automatically fills on itself.
(4) Database Edition. Select the enterprise edition as it contains the full package oracle database product that provide database management for enterprise level application.
(5) Character set. Select default for this
(6) Global Database name: Select the name of your instace. it can be any name. but for the purpose of this guide i chose orcl
(7) Administrative password:  Select any password you can easily remember and confirm it then click next. your password might not conform to the oracle standard stil click yes to continue.

Step 6: Summary: Select finissh and your installation begins. This might take a while depending on the efficiency of your computer.
